Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Finland has delivered civilian material assistance to Ukraine. This assistance has consisted mainly of donations from the private and public sectors. The Ministry of the Interior is coordinating the provision of assistance to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

Finland has already delivered 238 truckloads of material assistance to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. A total of 51 vehicles, such as ambulances, fire engines and buses, have also been sent to Ukraine. Finnish experts have also helped in the situation and worked in countries neighbouring Ukraine, such as Moldova, where they have participated in the coordination of material assistance provided through the Mechanism.

Finland has sent civilian assistance to Ukraine, for example 21 ambulances, 9 fire engines, 21 other vehicles, expert assistance. A total of 238 truckloads of material assistance. The monetary value is over EUR 16 million.

- Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues and the situation is very difficult for those living in the middle of the war. Since the start of the war, Finland has provided Ukraine with much-needed material assistance, says Pauliina Eskola, Director of International Affairs from the Ministry of the Interior.

There is a great need for civilian material assistance in Ukraine. The invasion, which has now continued for more than a year, has caused extensive damage to Ukraine's infrastructure.

Destruction of the Kakhovka dam created a separate acute need for assistance

- Because of systematic attacks on the country's infrastructure, there is an acute need for assistance relating to the energy sector, for example. The destruction of the Kakhovka dam on 6 June has created a separate acute crisis within the wider war, where there is the greatest need for water supply, food, rescue equipment and temporary accommodation, for example, says Heikki Honkanen, Senior Coordinator from the Ministry of the Interior.

The purpose of the assistance provided by Finland is to respond to Ukraine's needs. Most recently, Finland has delivered supplies for the energy sector, hospital supplies, rescue service equipment and buses to Ukraine.

- Supporting Ukraine is a long-term process that is not expected to end in the near future. The Ministry of the Interior is continuously putting together new civilian material assistance packages, Eskola says.

The Ministry of the Interior would like to thank all those who have donated civilian material assistance for their significant help. Our support for Ukraine will continue.
