The Preparing for Incidents and Crises guide on Suomi.fi now includes instructions on how to stay safe during threats from the air. A threat from the air is a danger that comes from above, through the air. For example, it may involve a drone carrying explosives.

An airborne threat is usually sudden and hard to prepare for. It is therefore important to know how authorities give warnings and how to take shelter. The guide brings together information on the channels which the authorities use to warn about danger and where to find updates and instructions during an emergency.

Take shelter indoors during a drone threat

Authorities advise people to go indoors during a drone threat, as it may not be safe to stay outside. The guide also explains how to best protect yourself if you cannot get indoors.

How to prepare for threats from the air:

  • Learn how to seek shelter indoors.
  • Make sure you know how the authorities warn and communicate about the danger.

What to do if the authorities warn about a threat from the air:

  • Go indoors straight away when you get an emergency warning or hear a public warning signal.
  • The emergency warning tells you what to do. Follow the instructions.
  • Stay indoors until the authorities say it is safe to go out.
