The rescue departments of Uusimaa and Helsinki have received funding from the Internal Security Fund (ISF) for their joint project ‘Robotics as a Performance Booster for the Rescue Departments of Uusimaa’.

The project is led by the Helsinki City Rescue Department.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the rescue departments’ ability to better respond to the demanding and wide-ranging challenges faced by rescue services. The funding will be used to procure robots suitable for rescue operations as well as a vehicle for transporting them. The project will also procure other materials to support operations.

In particular, the new equipment will improve the safety of personnel in demanding and high-risk operations and strengthen rescue services’ operational readiness and situational awareness.

This partially EU-funded project will start on 1 May 2026 and run until November 2028. The total value of the project is around EUR 760,000. The own contribution is 25%, and it is divided between the four rescue departments.

The project is a significant joint investment in future rescue capability and the use of technology as part of rescue operations in Uusimaa.
