A new rescue station was opend in Vuosaari.

On Monday 23 February 2026, the City of Helsinki Rescue Department opened a new temporary rescue station at the end of Silttikuja in Vuosaari.

The station will strengthen rescue and prehospital care services in the area before the completion of the permanent Vuosaari rescue station. The new temporary station will allow faster access to help, especially in the Vuosaari area.

The rescue station will house a key unit and an ambulance. A key unit is a rescue unit that is able to quickly handle many smaller tasks on its own. In the event of a major or more serious accident, a key unit is the first on the scene and can initiate rescue operations and survey the situation for other units.

Key units have been actively developed in the 2020s. This has speeded up access to help in different parts of Helsinki and introduced an approach that is helping the Rescue Department to improve rescue operations across the city. The Vuosaari key unit was developed based on lessons learned. It is a modern, completely new rescue unit, effectively a next generation fire engine with the latest vehicle technology and rescue operations equipment.

The Vuosaari station ambulance will operate around the clock.

New traffic arrangements have been made in the area for the temporary station to ensure that emergency vehicles can leave and turn around from Silttikuja to Tyynylaavantie safely and quickly. Some of the changes made include:

  • the Tyynylaavantie traffic island has been narrowed
  • traffic signs warning of the rescue station have been added
  • routing arrangements to ensure priority access for emergency services from Silttikuja to Tyynylaavantie.

The aim of the traffic arrangements is to ensure that the Rescue Department’s vehicles can operate efficiently as soon as the station is operational.

The opening of the Vuosaari rescue station is part of the long-term development of the City's rescue and prehospital care services network. The Silttikuja station will serve the needs of the area until the permanent Vuosaari rescue station is completed in the next few years.
