The Western Uusimaa Rescue Department adopted a new emblem in connection with the transfer to the Wellbeing Services County. The old emblem featured Espoo’s coat of arms, representing the previous parent organisation. In turn, the new emblem features the coat of arms of the Uusimaa region, a symbol which dates back to the 1500s. The boat on the coat of arms is an old symbol of coastal areas, and the two silver rivers probably refer to the region’s rivers, which used to be important inland waterways. As in the old emblem, the coat of arms is placed inside the star symbol of the Finnish Rescue Services.

The Rescue Department's emblem is based on the national uniform emblems of the Rescue Services, which have a black base plate. The other colours come from the coat of arms. In addition to the text “Rescue Department”, we also wanted the emblem to include the name of our region, “Western Uusimaa.” The new emblem is trilingual, as we serve in Finnish, Swedish, and English. During 2023, the emblem will be updated on the Rescue Department's vehicles, boats, uniforms, property signs, printed matters and various electronic applications.

Hundreds of uniforms have already been stitched with the new emblem at the Rescue Department’s depot. The aim is that by the end of 2023, rescuers, paramedics, fire inspectors, safety instructors and other rescue workers will be wearing uniforms with up-to-date symbols.
