The Kymenlaakso Rescue Department rescues and protects people, property and the environment in all tasks assigned to rescue operations within the Kymenlaakso region. The Kymenlaakso Rescue Department coordinates preparedness and prevents accidents through education and creating the conditions for rescue operations with its skilled, motivated and dedicated personnel.

The Kymenlaakso Rescue Department is one of Finland's 21 rescue departments. Its service area includes the municipalities of Kymenlaakso: Kouvola, Kotka, Hamina, Pyhtää, Virolahti, and Miehikkälä. The regional council approves the rescue services' sub-plan, which outlines operational and financial goals as well as the investment plan. The wellbeing services county determines how the rescue department carries out its assigned duties within the region.

The Rescue Department currently employs approximately 185 staff members, who are divided into three sub-departments under the line organization managed by the Director of Operations (Rescue Director): Safety Services, Rescue Services, and Development and Support Services for Rescue Operations.
