Emergency medical care
The Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department provides emergency medical services in 10 municipalities in line with the cooperation agreement concluded with the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS). The emergency medical services handle more than 40,000 emergency tasks every year.
The 10 municipalities are:
- Espoo
- Hanko
- Ingå
- Karkkila
- Kauniainen
- Kirkkonummi
- Lohja
- Raseborg
- Siuntio
- Vihti
The Rescue Department also provides field command services related to emergency medical care in the Jorvi hospital area. In the Lohja and Länsi-Uusimaa hospital areas, field command services are provided by HUS.
FinnHEMs (website in Finnish) provides helicopter emergency medical services.
In addition, the hospital district’s own ambulances and those of private service providers operate in the area.
The availability, quality and content of emergency medical services are specified in the hospital district’s decision on the standard of services.
Feedback on emergency medical services
You can submit feedback on the emergency medical services and customer service of the Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department through our feedback system.
Tiered emergency medical service system
The Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department operates as part of a tiered emergency medical service system. The purpose of the system is to deliver sufficient examination and care resources to each patient. The rescue department’s units are scattered within the area of operations so that help reaches the destination as quickly as possible. The units are on stand-by around the clock, every day of the year.
We cooperate with the neighbouring regions’ rescue departments, contract fire brigades, hospital districts, FinnHEMS helicopter emergency medical services, the Finnish Border Guard, basic health care and social welfare services, and the police.
The emergency medical service units receive their tasks from the emergency response centre where the staff assesses the type of help a patient needs.
