This autumn, Uusimaa rescue departments carried out inspections on escape rooms. The previous nationwide round of inspections took place in 2019. The objective was to evaluate the current safety conditions and safety development of escape rooms in Uusimaa. A total of 28 escape rooms were inspected, some in cooperation with TUKES.
The rescue departments are unaware of any significant accidents in escape rooms, and the objective of the inspections is simply to proactively identify and address potential risks. Escape rooms have been inspected regularly between 2019 and 2023.
During the autumn inspection round, it was noted that escape rooms had paid particular attention to independent preparedness, with only about 10% of the sites lacking in this regard. About half of the sites had issues related to safe exit, most of which had to do with exit signs, which are usually easy and quick to correct. Shortcomings related to equipment and appliances, such as first-aid extinguishing equipment, were found in about one in three sites. Fire inspectors also commented on some individual electrical installations.
Compared to the previous inspection round carried out in 2019, the results show that the safety of escape rooms has improved.
