Preparedness means preparing for various incidents and crises and emergency conditions in advance.

If something extraordinary happens, everyone’s preparedness and actions affect our ability to cope.

Situations requiring preparedness include:

  • long power and water outages
  • long disruptions in internet or banking services
  • natural phenomena, such as a storm or wildfire
  • longer-term crises, such as a pandemic or a military conflict.

The guide strengthens competence in individual emergency planning. The guide is part of a broader communication package on individual emergency planning, which strengthens the population’s competence in preparedness by means such as guidance and advice.
