Hot work must be carried out safely

Hot work tasks pose a particular risk. They must always be carried out safely and following the regulations on hot work.

Hot work produces sparks, or a flame or other heat is used in it, always causing a fire risk. For example, tasks of this type are carried out in connection with roofing and waterproofing work, in which a flame or hot air is used to dry an installation surface, or to heat up bitumen or a waterproofing membrane.

Be careful, and remember the supervision and fire watching of the hot work site. Unfortunately, the site often only catches fire after the hot work has been completed.

Check before starting hot work

  1. A hot work permit has been issued?
  2. The work is carried out on a temporary hot work site?
  3. How has fire watching been arranged while the work is in progress and afterwards?
  4. The risks of the work environment have been assessed?
  5. Sufficient protections are in place?

Hot work training

Hot work training is organised by rescue associations, rescue departments, educational institutions and entrepreneurs in the field of education, among other things. Those who have completed the training usually receive a hot work card, which is valid for a fixed term. In the building sector, the card is used to assess if a person is suitable and eligible to perform hot work. A hot work card is valid for 5 years.
