Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department
Open fire
You always need the landowner’s permission to make open fire.
Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department does not accept notifications concerning the making of open fire (with the exception of prescribed burning and other burning that produces significant smoke). Burning branches and twigs in a pile equivalent to the size of a passenger car will produce a significant amount of smoke.
General information about making open fire
Note! As of January 1, 2023, permission to light an open fire on Espoo city land must be sought from the city of Espoo, not from the rescue services.
Prescribed burning and other burning that produces significant smoke
The Rescue Department must be notified two (2) weeks in advance of the planned date and time of prescribed burning or other fire handling that produces significant smoke. The time must be confirmed to the rescue department 24 hours in advance by e-mail (lansi-uusimaa@pelastustoimi.fi) or telephone on 029 151 2112.
You must always have the landowner’s permission for burning. It is polite to inform neighbours about potential smoke nuisance well in advance before burning.
