The Helsinki Rescue School started its operations in the spring of 1972 and is the oldest educational institution in Finland offering a degree in firefighting. The school is currently undergoing the most significant change in its history, transitioning from a school funded by the City of Helsinki to one funded by the state. The school is part of the Ministry of the Interior’s rescue services and fully follows the curriculum of Emergency Services Academy Finland. With the change, the Rescue School will train rescuers for the needs of the whole of Finland, not directly for Helsinki City Rescue Department.
