As part of the European Union, Finland bears its share of responsibility for the impacts of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. Public authorities alone cannot respond to the extensive need for aid; instead, assistance must be provided through broader cooperation. The Ministry of the Interior coordinates the provision of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

Ukraine’s energy crisis is worsened by cold winter

In recent months, Russia has increased its attacks on Ukraine’s energy systems. The attacks have damaged power transmission and supply systems, for example. Many regions suffer from recurring power outages and have had to restrict energy consumption.

The Ukrainian energy sector therefore needs donations, technical expertise and reserve capacity solutions to overcome the winter. The need for aid in Ukraine cuts through all of society.

Donation process begins at the Ministry of the Interior

The Department for Rescue Services at the Ministry of the Interior coordinates civilian material donations from all sectors of society to Ukraine. This enables Finnish companies, government agencies, organisations, municipalities or wellbeing services counties to give their support to Ukraine. A substantial amount of assistance has already been sent to Ukraine through the Civil Protection Mechanism.

The Ministry of the Interior forwards all offers of assistance to Ukraine through the Civil Protection Mechanism and pays for the transport costs. Read more about the donation process on the website of the Ministry of the Interior at intermin.fi/en/ukraine/civilian-assistance-to-ukraine
