Minister of the Interior Paula Risikko will meet Estonian Minister of the Interior Hanno Pevkur in Helsinki today on 2 November. The Ministers will discuss migration and the current asylum seeker situation, particularly the European Commission's proposals to improve the EU's asylum system. Other topics on the agenda will be Estonia's forthcoming EU Presidency and the ongoing rescue service reform in Finland.
- Finland and Estonia collaborate extensively, for example in training civilian crisis management experts. I am looking forward to the opportunity to discuss with the Estonian Minister of the Interior how we could further enhance our cooperation, says Minister Risikko.
Cooperation between the Finnish and Estonian Ministries of the Interior is close and effective. The Ministers' meeting was preceded by a meeting between the permanent secretaries in October.
