New advisory board appointed to guide and develop rescue services

The Government appointed an advisory board for rescue services under the Ministry of the Interior in line with the Act on Organising Rescue Services. The advisory board consists of representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Ministry of Finance, the wellbeing services counties and the City of Helsinki. The first task of the advisory board is to discuss the national objectives of rescue services.

In future, the tasks of the advisory board are to:

•    address the needs to develop legislation on rescue services and other development needs
•    monitor and assess the development of organising rescue services in the wellbeing services counties
•    make proposals for the national objectives of rescue services
•    discuss initiatives of the Ministry of the Interior concerning rescue services and statements of the wellbeing services counties related to them
•    promote the achievement of the strategic objectives for information management in rescue services
•    discuss other central government measures concerning rescue services that are important in principle
•    promote national and regional rescue service cooperation.

The first term of the advisory board will run from 3 October 2022 to 31 April 2025, followed by four-year terms. The establishment of the advisory board for rescue services is part of the ongoing wellbeing services county reform.
