Views requested on amendments to Act on Emergency Warnings
The Ministry of the Interior invites views on a draft government proposal to amend the Act on Emergency Warnings. The amendments would make the legislative changes required to introduce a cell broadcast public warning system. The consultation round closes on 14 July 2026.

The Preparing for Incidents and Crises guide on Suomi.fi now includes instructions on how to stay safe during threats from the air. The new section explains how authorities issue warnings, how to prepare for a drone threat, and how to stay safe during such an incident.
Finland to provide emergency shelter assistance to Venezuela
Venezuela was hit by two devastating earthquakes on 24 June. Finland is assisting Venezuela by providing emergency shelter assistance through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
Ministerial group on Baltic Sea Security in Helsinki: Joint measures to respond to drone-related threats complement national preparedness
The interior ministers of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany or their representatives have gathered for a meeting of the ministerial group on Baltic Sea Security on 17 and 18 June. The representatives of the countries will discuss drone-related threats in the region and joint measures to respond to these threats. The meeting is chaired by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.

Rescue authorities found shortcomings in the fire safety and provision of safe egress in shops
Uusimaa rescue departments conducted control visits at various shops between November 22 and December 1, 2021. This was the second time control was implemented in cooperation between the Uusimaa rescue departments. In total, the control visits covered 197 shops around Uusimaa. Rescue authorities focused particularly on the fire safety and provision of safe egress.
Rescue departments inspect shops in Uusimaa
Rescue departments in the Uusimaa region will carry out inspection visits to commercial premises in their areas during the holiday shopping season. In particular, the inspections will focus on the safety of exit routes in shops and stores.
Residents interested in the safety of their detached houses in Western Uusimaa
Last summer, the Western Uusimaa Rescue Department sent a fire safety self-assessment form to some of the residents of detached houses in its area. This year, the letter was sent to approximately 5,200 households.

The wellbeing services county of Western Uusimaa will start operating in 2023.
The new website of the Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department has been published
The new website of the Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department has been published on the pelastustoimi.fi platform as part of the Rescue Services’ project aimed at harmonising its online communication. Most of Finland’s 22 rescue departments will transfer their websites to the joint platform.
